The Challenge

Following the acquisition of a leading spine division, the company faced significant IT infrastructure challenges. Their existing SAP ECC 6.0 EHP7 system was hosted on-premises across multiple environments and Virtual Machines (VMs), with critical workloads. As the healthcare technology landscape rapidly evolves, the client needed to enhance scalability, flexibility, and performance to meet growing demands. Their on-prem infrastructure had become a limiting factor, particularly as they transitioned into an independent entity. Additionally, maintaining compliance, ensuring data security, and reducing operational costs were key priorities. Solution

Resolve Tech Solutions (RTS) was selected to lead the critical project of migrating the client’s ECC 6.0 EHP7 workloads from on-premises to Azure Cloud, along with providing ongoing managed services for both cloud infrastructure and SAP applications. The project was executed in two major phases:

1) Migration of SAP ECC 6.0 Workload from On-Prem to Azure Cloud:

Environments:

The project involved moving the following
environments to the cloud:
- Sandbox
- Development
- Quality Assurance (QAS)
- Production

Migration Options Explored:

RTS explored three strategic options for the migration:
- Azure Site Recover : Considered for its quick recovery
potential in disaster scenarios.
- Homogeneous System Copy: Focused on maintaining
system consistency during the migration.
- New System Build (Export/Import): A fresh build
approach to ensure a clean start on Azure

After careful evaluation, RTS deployed a hybrid of the homogeneous system copy and new system build, ensuring seamless data transition and minimal business disruption.

Virtual Machines (VMs):

The migration involved a significant number of VMs, presenting a considerable infrastructure challenge. Each VM required meticulous attention to ensure all SAP applications and databases were seamlessly moved without
any impact on functionality.

 Timeline:

The migration was successfully completed within three months, adhering strictly to the proposed schedule. Key activities included:

  • Developing a detailed project plan with proactive risk mitigation strategies to minimize downtime and performance impacts during the migration.
  • Leading comprehensive post-migration functional testing across all SAP modules to ensure data integrity, application functionality, and system performance.
  • Conducting multiple mock cutovers to simulate the live migration, identifying, and resolving potential issues in a controlled environment.
  • Proactively resolving all defects across environments, ensuring a smooth go-live with minimal downtime.
2) Managed Cloud and Application Managed Services:

After the successful migration, RTS engaged in a three-year contract to provide managed services for the client’s cloud infrastructure and SAP applications.

Managed Cloud Services:

- Infrastructure Monitoring and Management: RTS provided 24/7 monitoring and management
of Azure cloud resources, including compute,
storage, and network services.
- OS Support and Patching: Continuous support and maintenance of the operating systems running on the cloud, ensuring timely updates, security patching, and system stability.
- SAP Basis Support (Technical): Expert technical support to maintain the SAP environment and ensure optimal performance.

Application Managed Services (AMS):

RTS offered a shared functional support across multiple SAP modules, including:
- ECC (Enterprise Core Component)
- EWM (Extended Warehouse Management)
- PI-PO (Process Integration/Process Orchestration)
- BOBJ (Business Objects)
- BODS (BusinessObjects Data Services)
- ADS (Adobe Document Services)
- SOLMAN (Solution Manager)

The AMS ensured that the client could focus on its core business while RTS handled all functional aspects of SAP, providing timely resolutions to any issues, managing updates, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations.
